Joining the Drama Society is easy for UCL Students:
During the first week of term, you will have the opportunity to discover all the different clubs and societies of UCL Union. You can find us at the Fresher’s Fayre and sign up to our mailing list then. Our first meeting is usually held on the second monday of term: come along to that to meet and greet the current Committee, and find out about all that we do. Auditions for plays will usually happen about that time.
The Fresher’s Plays are three plays that are traditionally cast entirely with first years, to get people involved, and auditions for other plays will happen at the same time – the more you audition for, the better your chance of being cast!
For more information, visit the Auditions page.
“Try” Fortnight is a two week period which commences on the second week of term during which time you can try out any activity by societies for free, to get a taste of what they do. At the end of this, “Join” Fortnight begins, and you will have two weeks to join the societies which you want to be part of.
During this time you can join the Drama Soc very easily:
a) Go to the 2nd Floor of the CSC and ask for the Joining Form at the Reception
b) Fill in a very simple form, hand over £8 and you’re done!
Alternatively, you will be able to join online this year… more information on this as it arrives…
Membership for the Drama Soc is just £8 for the entire academic year and covers costs that allow us to pay for free workshops, insurance, subsidised theatre trips and socials etc…
It really is that easy!
The Benefits of Joining
1. PRODUCTIONS: Without membership you can’t perform, produce, direct or be involved with our productions sadly. But with membership, you can be involved in every single Drama Soc production in this year!
2. CHANCE TO DO YOUR OWN SHOW: If you want to produce or direct your own Drama Society show next term or next year, we will fund and produce it for you! But only if you’re a member….
3. WORKSHOPS: For members, our programme of professional weekly workshops is FREE! This covers all the workshops this year, not just the ones in this term. For non-members it costs £2 per workshop, or over £25 to go to every workshop this year!
4.SUBSIDISED TRIPS: From the end of “Join fortnight”, you can only come on our amazing subsidised trips if you are a member…
5. CHANCE TO VOTE AND RUN FOR POSITIONS: We have an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) coming up in November 2009 to elect a new Freshers’ Rep, and in February/March 2010, we will be electing the next committee. You can only run or vote if you are a Drama Society member!
6. OTHER ACTIVITIES: We have a number of unannounced activities coming up. They include the prospect of 24 hour plays, a 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Production and possibly the chance to send a show to the Avignon Off Festival in France. You can only enjoy these activities as a member!
And you may be wondering what happens to your money? Well, it all goes back into providing opportunity for Drama Society members! The more members we have, the better and busier the Society will be!
